Dan Lydersen Currently has a show at the Jack Fischer Gallery between 16th and 17th street on Portrero. It is must see show if you are in the area. Lydersen does extremely detailed oil paintings that are whimsical, but at the same time have serious undertones.
I spoke with the artist who recently had another solo show in southern California about the time it must take to finish these works. The painting above clocked out at over 400 hours, which you can see in the fine detail below. The ‘bush’ work is done in a tedious, methodical, almost like Seurat’s pointillism causing a kind of optical mixing and making it very realistic from a very short distance.
There are other shows nearby, so if you can get out to Catherine Clark Gallery, or Brian Gross Fine Arts, you may as well take the one block journey up the hill to see this great show, you won’t be disappointing you burned the calories. The work is affordable for the amount of work the artist put into them.
Awesome Circular piece based of the work of Hieronymus Bosch. AWESOME! (yes two awesomes)
